Project: Food From Around the World
Region/Country/Culture: The Philippines

Notes:
I told you I made an updated chart! Hehehe...the set pretty much doubled and even then, I know I didn't cover everything. Keep in mind that there are similar dishes all over the Philippines that are called something different (chocolate meat is a good example; I call it by its Ilocano name, but other dialects may be different).

I know...the flag-ish background may be a bit much...-_-" I tried, guys. I tried.

In addition - I don't speak/read/understand Tagalog, so if you have a comment, please respond in English (or Ilocano...I can kind of read that...). Thank you!

Wait... Siopao is a Chinese food, right?

Siopao is basically a meat bun and may be strictly considered Chinese food (although, meat in bread is pretty popular in may places. If you haven't tried it, I prefer pate chaud - a popular meat in bread from Vietnam, developed during the French colonial period, thus the French name. I tried it in Saigon and it's pretty good; totally recommend it.) so I understand your confusion, BUT the point of this isn't where food originated, but what was popular and culturally significant to a specific culture. It's fairly popular amongst Filipinos in America.

Yep. "Chocolate Meat" is a Filipino-American nickname for it and it's become sort of an inside joke here. :)
